Introduction:
Starting this month, I am pleased to
announce that I will be providing
the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce
with monthly updates and tips
entitled “Your HR Files”.
This column will focus on the many
important and ever changing issues
facing businesses related to Human
Resources and Employment Law.
As a Human Resources consultant with
twenty years of HR management experience, most recently as the HR Director
of Schweizer Aircraft Corporation, I have had the opportunity to witness
first hand the importance of paying attention to employee issues. By
developing effective policies and procedures, a business increases its
ability to staff itself with skilled employees through all levels of the
organization. Just as importantly, implementation of effective HR programs
and communication initiatives help ensure that these skilled employees are
focused and all working together towards achievement of the business’s
strategic and operational goals.
In addition to effectiveness, it is also
essential for an organization to ensure it is compliant with federal and
state laws. It is this area on which this introduction column will focus.

Steuben Welcomes Students
Leadership Steuben
kicked off their 2009-2010 program on Wednesday, September 23rd with 18
students representing a diverse cross-section of the area’s business
community. Co-sponsored by the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce and the
Corning Community College Workforce Development & Community Education,
the new students held their first “official” class is scheduled for Wednesday,
October 7th.
