DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Frame: Revisiting the Ekphrastic\n\nA Poetry Workshop with Elizabeth Hoover\n\nSunday\, January 11 at The ARTS Council\n\nJoin The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) on Sunday\, January 11\, from 1-2:30pm for a poetry workshop with Elizabeth Hoover.\n\nThe workshop\, Beyond the Frame: Revisiting the Ekphrastic\, will be held at The ARTS Council\, 79 W Market St in Corning. Elizabeth will lead the group in an ekphrastic writing workshop based on the artwork in the gallery. Come ready to be inspired by art and to put pen to paper!\n\nBeyond the Frame: Revisiting the Ekphrastic\n\nFor centuries\, poets have mined the visual arts of inspiration\, significance\, and insight into their craft. This type of poetry is called ekphrastic poetry\, but it is a wide and diverse field in which poets are constantly reconsidering the relationships between the reader\, writer\, and object of art.  In this generative poetry workshop\, we will  discuss examples ekphrastic poetry to discover models for our own writing\, sharpen our descriptive skills\, and play with different ways a piece of visual art can be a point of departure for creative writing. After visiting the 2025 Holiday Member Show at the Evelyn Peeler Peacock Gallery\, we will have ample time to put our ideas into practice and experiment with new revision techniques.\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.\n\nAbout Elizabeth\n\nElizabeth Hoover is the author of the archive is all in present tense\, winner of the 2021 Barrow Street Book Prize\, and the recipient of the Pat Holt Prize for Critical Art Writing from Lambda Literary.  Her poetry has appeared in Pittsburgh Quarterly\, Harpur Palate\, Narrative\, Prairie Schooner\, The Crab Orchard Review\, and Tupelo Quarterly\, among others\, and she has published essays in the North American Review\, the Southeast Review\, and StoryQuarterly. Her writing about art\, pop culture\, and books has appeared in Kenyon Review\, Paper\, The Art Newspaper and the Washington Post. She has facilitated community workshops at the Saint Louis Poetry Center\, Driftless Region Literary Center\, Poets in the Woods\, and Jackson Hole Writers.
