DESCRIPTION:171 Cedar Arts Center is pleased to announce the opening of Incantation: Works on Paper and Mixed Media Sculpture by Gigi Alvar  on Friday\, September 12\, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Houghton Gallery located at 155 Cedar Street\, Corning\, NY. The exhibition is free and open to the public. The exhibit is open September 12 through October 24\, 2014.\n\n\n\nAlvar 's work evokes the phenomenon of movement as expressed in human experience\, the body\, memory and emotion using a fusion of ink and pastels on paper. The series of post-modern invocation - more revelation that narrative\, more rhizomatic than linear\, moving from subconscious to conscious\, unformed to formed\, abstract to concrete. Alvar  is a visual artist\, performer and writer.\n\n\n\nHer artwork has been exhibited throughout New York State. She has created large visual elements for the Statue of Liberty Centennial Celebration and the Village Halloween Parade\, New York City. Through the Touchtone Center for Children\, she has written and performed numerous plays. Currently the Director of Education at the Rockwell Museum in Corning\, NY\, Alvar  has worked extensively in arts-in-education school programs\, both in New York City and the Hudson River Valley since 1984.
