Join today!\n\nAbout Melissa Vandenberg\n\nInspired by relics of Americana\, eastern religious practices\, and an overall nostalgia for vintage materials\, artist Melissa Vandenberg creates sculptures and installations that address the fleeting nature of power and a lack of permanence with both the tangible and metaphysical. "We impose a lot of metaphors on objects and possessions\," says Vandenberg\, "which affects my chosen iconography."\n\nBorn and educated in Detroit\, Vandenberg earned a BFA from Center for Creative Studies in Detroit\, and an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She currently lives and works in eastern Kentucky where she is an associate professor of art at Eastern Kentucky University. Her studio practice explores the political landscape using national identity\, folk art\, ancestry\, immigration\, and the perception of a homeland as points of departure. Vandenberg's work has been exhibited in Canada\, Germany\, Luxembourg\, Iceland\, and extensively throughout the United States.
