SUMMARY:"The Love Left Behind: Artwork by Lynn Rhoda Dates" Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) is honored to present\, "The Love Left Behind: Artwork by Lynn Rhoda Dates." Organized by Lynn's friends with help from her family\, the exhibition features 40 pieces of work spanning her artistic career.\n\n \n\nLynn's work will be on view in The Evelyn Peeler Peacock Gallery at The ARTS Council\, 79 W Market St\, Corning\, NY 14830 from Monday\, July 17 through Friday\, August 4\, 2023. A free reception will be held on Friday\, July 21 from 5 to 8pm and is open to all. Come with a story! Beginning at 5:30pm\, there will be an opportunity to share memories of Lynn's life and work.\n\n \n\nAbout The Artist and Her Work\n\nLynn's work mirrors her personality. It is playful and ironic\, surprising and provocative. It invites exploration and demands engagement. The work in the exhibition will span her career from high school to the weeks before she died. She experimented with different media throughout her life and the exhibition will include paintings\, drawings\, and sculptural pieces with clay\, fabric and found objects. At the end of her life\, she began making a new body of work with kokeshi dolls. While themes and motifs are apparent in her work\, Lynn never stopped growing and challenging herself.\n\nWe were lucky to have known her and to have had her in our community. Lynn served the regional arts scene first as the grants manager at The ARTS Council and later as the executive director at 171 Cedar Arts Center. She ended her professional career at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier\, a position which gave her purpose and joy.\n\nRegardless of the roles she assumed\, she always returned to her studio. She made art first and foremost for herself\, her own aesthetic sense\, her own need for expression and connection. Ever generous\, she shared that work literally and figuratively with all of us. In honor of this extraordinary life\, Lynn's friends and family invite you to come and celebrate the love she left behind.\n\n__\n\nThe Evelyn Peeler Peacock Gallery at The ARTS Council serves as a primary venue for artistic and professional growth for emerging artists in the Southern Finger Lakes and features a wide range of exhibitions throughout the year including solo exhibitions\, member exhibitions\, and regional juried exhibitions.
