Spencer Hill Gallery presents the recent work of five of its represented artists in a show titled, Being. This newest exhibition investigates metaphor in human existence. It answers what it means to be fully human, to convey life’s complex emotions with an intensified expressiveness. It probes being an artist in the face of modern ideologies and cultural tensions, while fostering reliance on an inner, intrinsic aesthetic for a bolder external articulation. Using materials such as oil and acrylic painting, mixed media, and printmaking, the varied imagery speaks of “being” through the fertile layering of material, often eschewing familiar visual vocabulary favoring surface texture and avant-garde compositions. As such each artist breathes substance to the layers of human experience while offering the viewer a celebration in the absolute certainty of human imagination.
Participating artists: David Berry, Sandra Bowden, Nicora Gangi, Bruce Herman, and Jilian Sokso.
