The Corning Area Chamber of Commerce announces the next program in the 2012 Chemung Canal Trust Company and The Arc of Steuben Educational Program Series entitled, “Marketing on a Shoestring Budget” with special program facilitator, Fred Benson, Publisher of The Leader.

About the Facilitator: Fred joined GateHouse Media in January as Group Publisher. His responsibilities include oversight for the Leader in Corning as well as several weekly publications distributed in Horseheads, Bath and Penn Yan. His focus since joining GateHouse has been the creation of intuitive, engaging, and brand-compliant experiences via digital communications. He is training his sales team to implement marketing solutions for clients based on research, market information, strategic planning and industry/segment information.
As the former Sales and Marketing Director for Fayetteville Publishing Company, Fred worked to expand their portfolio of products including a senior’s lifestyle magazine, the Sandspur – a weekly newspaper, Acento Latino – a Spanish language newspaper, several niche magazines and Fayobserver.com – the newspaper web site. He directly oversaw the operations of two weekly military newspapers.
Prior to his position in Fayetteville, he worked for the Department of Defense as a Director of the Stars and Stripes. Stars and Stripes is a daily international newspaper serving the US Military stationed overseas. His duties had him stationed in Germany, Japan, Korea and Iraq. In 2005, he received an Award of Excellence from the Secretary of Defense for his work.
His experience includes management positions with the Miami Herald, CASS Communications and Ziff-Davis publishing. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Florida, Nova Southeastern University, Fayetteville State University and Cornell.
There is no charge for Chamber Members to attend this educational program (included with Membership investment) and the Not-Yet Member cost is as follows:
