Anniversary Ribbon Cutting for Connors Mercantile

A beloved cornerstone of Corning’s downtown shopping district, Connors Mercantile is celebrating an incredible 50 years in business with a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, November 14 at noon. The community is invited to join in the celebration at 16 East Market Street to honor this remarkable milestone.
Connors Mercantile was founded in 1975 within the Ecker Drug Store by pharmacy co-owner Barbara Connors. After overseeing major renovations to a nineteenth-century building, Barbara and her husband, George Connors, moved and expanded the store to its current location, offering nearly four thousand square feet of retail space in the heart of Corning’s Gaffer District.
In 2008, Barry Nicholson purchased Connors Mercantile from the retiring Connors couple, with the stipulation that the store’s longtime general manager, Jill Agosta, continue to lead its merchandising and day-to-day operations.
“Connors Mercantile has been about providing the best service and selection of women's accessories, personal care, gourmet foods, and gifts in the Southern Tier since 1975,” said owner Barry Nicholson. “Thanks to Jill and her excellent retail team, we’re proud to celebrate 50 years of Connors Mercantile — offering Mackenzie Childs, Vera Bradley, Pandora Jewelry, Brighton Accessories, and Sweet Shop Chocolates, as well as more than thirty other specialty brands.”
Known as a “chic and unique boutique”, Connors Mercantile offers affordable luxuries for those Everyday Indulgences! Beyond retail, the Connors team is a passionate supporter of local charities serving women in the region and an avid advocate for the performing arts.
The 50th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting will commemorate not only five decades of business success, but also the strong community relationships that have made Connors Mercantile a cherished local institution.
