Art of the Cemetery: Tales of Local True Crime
Join The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes on Thursday, October 22, from 5:30-8:30pm for Art of the Cemetery: Tales of Local True Crime. We'll explore 3 cemeteries in Corning and Elmira visiting the graves of those who died by murder or experienced some sort of calamity in their lives.
True Crime isn't just for tv. On Thursday October 22, Richard Urban and Casey Winston will lead a cemetery tour of three area cemeteries. At each stop, Richard and Casey will tell the stories of real life true crime victims, as well as discuss aspects of gravestone art and symbology. Please be aware that we will be visiting the graves of some murder victims so if those tales aren't for you, come back next year for new stories. With this year's true crime theme, we are trying to keep the stories of those affected alive by celebrating who they were in life even as they have passed into death. We will be walking through uneven ground and partially in the dark as the sun sets so please feel free to bring flashlights and lanterns to help light our way. Dress appropriately for an evening outside in late October traipsing through the grass.
We will meet at the Heritage Village of the Southern Finger Lakes, 73 W. Pulteney St. in Corning at 5:30pm where our bus will depart for the cemeteries. After touring for a couple of hours, we will return to the Heritage Village for a cider and wine tasting provided by Little Clover Winery and to enjoy the ambiance of the 1796 Tavern.
Advance registration is required. Seats are limited and the cost is $20 per person.
