  • Community of Belonging: A Poetry Workshop with Kidd Williams

Join The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) on Wednesday July 15, 2026 from 6-7:30pm for Community of Belonging: A Poetry Workshop with Kidd Williams, at The ARTS Council, 79 West Market St. in Corning, NY. This is an ekphrastic poetry workshop based on Neon Chapel, a solo exhibition by Tori Immerwahr.

A common component of queer experience is the feeling of not quite fitting in until finding an unshakeable acceptance deep inside, or else a place in a community of true belonging.

For the workshop, attendees will poetically study and write from their own areas of displacement, or work to find what they find welcoming within the art pieces of Tori Immerwahr. Attendees will be encouraged to write, draw, or inscribe their finished pieces on material that isn't normal paper (materials provided) or on paper that has been colored, twisted, or shaped queerly but interestingly. In this way, we will make art as outsiders, but together.

Tori will attend the workshop to give us some insight into their work and their process. For more information on Tori's show, visit http://eARTS.org/current-exhibit .

Poet, Kidd Williams, will be facilitating the workshop. Kidd Williams is the pen-name of Joy Williams, a trans woman, and former teacher and domestic violence victims’ services worker. Since the turn of the century, she has been a grant writer and planner both for local passion-based agencies (a better term for ‘nonprofits’) and in higher education. She is also – and fundamentally – a poet, musician, and fierce advocate for intersectional justice.

This program is free and open to the public.
