Quarry Farm Poetry Workshop
Join The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes (The ARTS Council) and poet, Michael Czarnecki, for a poetry workshop at historic Quarry Farm in Elmira, NY, on Thursday, September 17, from 6-8pm.
Quarry Farm was the summer retreat for Mark Twain and his family. Some of Twain's most famous works were fully or partially written at Quarry Farm. As part of his daily ritual, Twain would end the day on the veranda overlooking the Chemung River Valley and read what he had written that day to his family.
Poet Michael Czarnecki was awarded a two-week fellowship at Quarry Farm in the Fall of 2025 and has extensive knowledge of the property and Twain's time there. Michael will lead us through some exercises to get us thinking about writing inspiration, and then we will have free time to roam the grounds of Quarry Farm to explore and write before we come together on the veranda to end our day, just as Mark Twain did, reading our work together. Please note that we will not be allowed inside the house.
Parking is available onsite at Quarry Farm. If you're planning to attend, pull into the driveway and follow the drive behind the red barn on your right to the parking field behind the barn. Carpooling is encouraged if possible.
This program is free and open to the public.
