Winner of Blown Away Season 2 | Guest Artist Elliot Walker
See Elliot Walker in the Amphitheater Hot Shop Wednesday, April 13–Friday, April 15 and again on Sunday, April 17–Tuesday, April 19, 10 am–4 pm.
The winner of the hit Netflix series Blown Away receives a life-changing prize: the Blown Away Residency at The Corning Museum of Glass. It’s a chance to explore new ideas in glass; an opportunity to work with our team of talented artists to realize nearly any vision the winner wants to pursue.
When Season 2 was released in January 2021, no one could have predicted the Blown Away Residency would be delayed for more than a year due to COVID. Join us for the highly anticipated Blown Away Residency when winner, Elliot Walker, gets to take advantage of his prize and collaborate with the Museum’s team.
Walker is a UK-based artist who started working with glass while earning his psychology degree. He went back to school for glassmaking and design, and today calls himself a “dedicated experimenter” who constantly challenges preconceptions of glass. He urges those who view his work to surrender to its ambiguity and surrealism.
Those who saw Elliot’s victory in Season 2 will remember his thought-provoking, self-reflective installation Bodge Job, which told a behind-the-scenes story about what goes through the mind of an artist preparing for an installation of their work. Elliot first worked with the Corning team to realize this vision, and will team up with them once again for the Residency.
While at the Museum, don’t miss one of Elliot’s objects, Spilt Milk, on display in the Museum’s Blown Away: Season 2 display on the West Bridge.
See Elliot Walker in the Amphitheater Hot Shop Wednesday, April 13–Friday, April 15 and again on Sunday, April 17–Tuesday, April 19, 10 am–4 pm.
Please note that the artist and gaffers will take lunch breaks each day, so times may vary.
